This week hasn't been the easiest of weeks (
ask anyone who lives with me!) You see, I decided I needed a little personal rehab from my addiction to...caffeine.
Oh, the shame! My caffeine was delivered daily through a steady stream of Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Coke, preferably in a Route 44 cup from Sonic...
oh, Sonic, how I love thee....whoops that is a slippery slope. I am not a coffee drinker but somehow morhped into someone was desperately hopped up on caffeine from sodas.
I mean, like I was very serious about my soda! First thing in the morning I would stumble to the fridge for that first hit before stopping by the medicine cabinet for my 1st round of headache meds...
it was a vicious cycle. So last week, after realizing just how many OTC pain meds I was taking, I decided it was probably related to my massive intake of soda/caffeine and some kind of rebound on the headache (and the OTC meds.) Fast forward to this week, I have had no caffeine (
soda or other form) since Sunday night. Also, I have NO OTC meds for headaches!!! Headaches, I have had...but, of course, they were worse the first 2 or 3 days off the beautiful amber liquid. Here I am, entering day 5...
and no one has died...
yet...just call me Dr. Drew!
This is just toooooo funny...I am also addicted to caffeine, but for me, mine comes from Dr Pepper.
ReplyDeleteI posted about my hunt for a substitute here...

Good for you, girl. I still have my one cup of coffee daily, but other than that, I am pretty much caffeine free. Water, water, water. I gave up diet Coke about three years ago, after reading how bad it was for my bones, and leeching of calcium from my body. I never thought I could do it, but I did. SO CAN YOU! Just think of the cute shoes you can buy with that soda money!! ;D

WOW! I'm definately a caffeine addict. Mine comes via coffee and in the summer iced tea. The caffeine doesn't give me headaches. The lack of caffeine gives me a headache. ;) I rarely do soda. Rarely. Good luck with giving them up. Seriously.. too much bad stuff in soda.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Maybe you can be my inspiration. My caffeine comes in the form of a Coke at lunchtime every day. Just one. I know one a day isn't too much but I know it's not good for me so I should quit. I have tried numerous times and I will do ok for awhile but I'll always end up coming back to it.
ReplyDeleteYou can do this, hang in there! You'll feel so much better.
Guess I should practice what I am preaching!

i used to have my daily caffeine until I got GERD (severe acid reflux) and now even chocolate can make me sick. I can have a bit of coffee or soda but not a whole serving.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you're giving it up, there's so little healthy about it and so much bad. Good for you!!!
Glad the family has survived your drying out time :) I love diet coke, and have a couple a week.
ReplyDeleteGreat news.
ReplyDeleteI went a week without diet pepsi and by the end of the week was very snappy, moody etc. I realised it was the sudden withdrawal from the caffine in it.
It is addictive.
have a great weekend

Can you see me nodding my head in agreement while reading? Not a coffee drinker either, but bring on the tea and Coke Zero!

I'm a hot tea drinker, but when I was in college, I drank iced tea all the time and very little water....a lot of headaches. I had to cut it out.
ReplyDeleteHahahaa, I love it! I've never been a coffee drinker either, but I love to have my one Coke a day!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. I start my day with coffee. Right now, because it's so hot, I keep it chilled in the fridge & then serve it over crushed ice with sugar-free Coffee Mate. I make it really strong but it tastes so good and so rich. It's all the caffeine I have for the day. I drink water, water & more water. If you drink 64oz. like all the experts say you are supposed to, there isn't enough time to drink anything else. I'm not kidding, between drinking the water and using the restroom, no time for any other beverage!
ReplyDeleteI've been having headaches recently, and my doctor said I should drink coffee! How strange is that? Btyw, it did not help. Patsy from

Good for you for giving up caffeine. I'll bet after the first week it will be a lot easier. I used to drink Diet Coke and gave it up. Now it really doesn't even taste that good to me. Keep at it!
ReplyDeleteWay to go! I need to work on cutting mine back out. I was doing good at the beginning of the year but have fallen back into that habit.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fellow Sonic Coke Addict! Only I don't choose the diet variety!! I want the REAL stuff, BUT I'm starting again on my journey to be coke free!
ReplyDeleteSome days are worse than others, and some days I'm just lucky I didn't kill anyone! LOL
Good luck to you!
Keep us posted on your progress and tricks you find!
How ironic is this - I woke up a little grumpy myself this a.m. because I knew there was no diet soda to be had in the house. Briefly considered that this might be a good time to wean myself off the stuff. I don't drink either coffee or tea and I try to stick to caffeine free diet sodas but I have a lot of those in the course of a day. I was so desperate I made a drink out of seltzer water and real Coke, sad but true. My drink of choice lately is caffeine free Diet Pepsi, oh well! (I had a quarter of a brownie with my cola concoction, I'm thinking there's no hope for me.)
ReplyDeleteOh I've been there! It's not the same but a good fizzy alternative is flavored seltzer. I also buy plain selter and add a few drops of Mio.
ReplyDeleteOh how I feel your pain. There is no headache like a caffeine withdraw headache.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and commenting on my blog. Oh how I envy you. I have a very strong addiction to Pepsi, and cant imagine giving it up. Have a great week!
